We Now Know When 'Chelsea Lately's Ending

It's been months since the initial announcement was made that Chelsea Handler would not be renewing her late night show, but it wasn't until Wednesday that we got wind of the actual end date of the show. Mark your calendars: Chelsea Lately will end August 26 with an hour-long live send off.

When Chelsea Lately is off the air, that will mean that late-night — for whatever span of time passes from August 27 until another woman gets a gig — will be completely devoid of female hosts. Which is kind of astounding, and very telling. With one woman's exit, the entire slate is wiped clear.

Handler's been rumored on and off for the CBS slot that will soon be vacated by Craig Ferguson, but given that one of the great loves of Chelsea Handler's life is her potty mouth, the chances of that happening seem unlikely. Still, all eyes are trained on Handler as she plots her next move.

In this time of flux let us all just remember what Handler said last month at the Gloria Awards and Gala/Gloria Steinem's birthday bash last month:

I don’t have a plan. I don’t know what I’m going to do. I’m just done with this show. I want to move on. I want to exercise my brain a little bit more.’ And people said, ‘You can’t do that. You can’t leave a job in Hollywood when you have nothing lined up.’ I said, ‘Yes, I can. Watch me. I’m going to do that.’ And I did it. I mean, I’m not gone yet, I got a contract, but I’m gonna be gone. And it’s because of Gloria that women like us have those kinds of options.
