Maleficent hasn't even hit theaters yet and it's already a big summer blockbuster hit — or so Disney assumes, at least. They're anticipating that after everyone sees Angelina Jolie cackle as the evil queen, we'll all obsess over her the way the everyone under the age of ten freaked out over Frozen's Elsa. And instead of providing horned hats and black cloaks for us to buy, they thought we'd appreciate something a little more upscale. And actually, they were right. According to Vogue UK, Disney has teamed up with Crow's Nest Fine Jewelry to create a collection of Maleficent-inspired wearable pieces.
The seven-piece series includes gorgeous statement rings, bracelets and ear cuffs. The designer, Daniel Belevitch, studied the costumes and watched clips from the film to get a sense of the movie's key motifs. From Maleficent's dragons to the thorny trees in the forest, Belevitch believes the collection represents the movie's true spirit. "She's a dark character but with a beauty as well. I think she's misunderstood and we can learn something about ourselves from her. I hope my interpretation of the character, that I tried to capture within the jewelry, reflects how other people feel too, dark but beautiful," said Belevitch.
Each piece is set in rhodium with black diamonds, featuring a pear-shaped onyx. Some pieces are made from white gold or silver and include sapphires, too. And while they're absolutely stunning, they will cost you — the collection ranges in price from $4,000 to $22,000. But if Sleeping Beauty can dream, so can you, right?
