Anthony Weiner Has Shockingly Lost His Lead

A new poll shows Anthony Weiner has lost his lead in the race for New York City mayor.

The Wall Street Journal and the Marist Institute for Public Opinion poll shows City Council Speaker Christine Quinn now in the lead with 25 percent support among Democratic primary voters, compared to 16 percent for Weiner.

In June, the same poll showed Weiner leading Quinn by a full five percentage points.

"For many Democrats the latest revelations about Anthony Weiner are more of the same, only more so," said Lee Miringoff, director of the Marist College Institute for Public Opinion. "Weiner has lost his lead and his negatives are at an all-time high."

The 551 New Yorkers polled were divided when it came to whether or not Weiner should stay in the race for mayor: 43 percent said he should bow out, while 47 percent said he should stay in. Fewer than half said he deserved a second chance — down from 59 percent in June.

"Clearly, redemption overload has set in," Miringoff told Reuters.

Weiner resigned his House seat in 2011 after first lying about (then admitting to) sending dirty pictures to various women. On Tuesday, the candidate admitted to another online relationship that began after his resignation.

Now, Weiner has admitted to sexting three different women after his resignation from Congress. He said Thursday he is "still working with people" to get help for his behavior, and will remain in the race.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi commented on the scandal Thursday calling Weiner's behavior "reprehensible" and "disrespectful of women." She added that it's up to him whether to continue running.
