Molly Ringwald's New Role Is Appropriately 80s

by Lia Beck

A Scooter Braun-produced live-action Jem and the Holograms movie might not sound like best idea at first, but as more news about it is released, it sounds more and more intriguing. The latest news? Molly Ringwald has been cast in Jem and the Holograms . This means Ringwald will bring some 80s flair to a film based on an 80s cartoon. It sounds like nostalgia overload and that sounds like just the thing that will get people into the theater. Scooter Braun might have a silly name, but I think he knows what he's up to with this movie.

It is not yet know what role Ringwald will play which puts her in the same boat as Juliette Lewis who was also recently cast. It's possible to guess what roles the actresses will take — members of rival band The Misfits? — but there's no way to know for sure just yet. It's possible that they will play new characters altogether. We already know this movie is turning Jem into a singer who got popular online, so it's clear it's not exactly sticking to the original story.

Updates like having Jem get her start online make sense, for one, because Scooter Braun discovered Justin Bieber online so it's right up his alley, but also because it will relate to kids today. Plus, the four main actresses are all young themselves and have appeared on shows tweens and teens will be familiar with like Pretty Little Liars and The Fosters. Then you bring in the older audience with the nostalgia of knowing the cartoon and recognizing Ringwald and Lewis and you're good to go.

Seriously though, they should just tell us what roles Ringwald and Lewis are playing. We need to know what crazy hair color to picture them wearing.
