Is This A 'Ship Spoiler For Steroline?

Just stop right now, Julie Plec — I mean it. The Vampire Diaries Season 5 finale will air on Thursday, but spoilers for Season 6 are already streaming in about Caroline's love life. We've barely figured out how Stefan Salvatore's death during last week's episode will effect his relationship with Caroline – not to mention that he hasn't even come back to life yet. And here's Plec's fellow showrunner Caroline Dries, dropping what she thinks are sneaky spoilers that more or less confirm that Steroline will happen in Season 6. Or do they?

Dries revealed to TVLine that Season 6 is going to have Caroline take her romantic life into her own hands. So I guess she won't be waiting around for Plec to decide that it's cool for her to take a trip to New Orleans. Sigh. The showrunner doesn't explicitly say who exactly Caroline is going after, but she does say that it's a "crush" from Season 5. Now who could that be? Here's Dries' exact words:

Caroline’s got a little crush/feeling for someone that’s going to creep up to the surface and cause a potential rift between her and one of her friends. So she’s like, ‘I’m going to push that down.’ We’re going to see [Caroline] set her sights on [said crush] and try to make a move.

Making no assumptions (even though this totally sounds like she's going after Stefan) there are two potential crushes Dries could be referring to — the first and obvious one, is Stefan. A few weeks ago TVD's writers painted a sad and kind of pathetic picture of Caroline as a jealous girlfriend. And if she was willing to throw her BFF Elena under the bus to find out whether or not she and Stefan were hooking up, I'd venture to say that she has a crush on him. They also have built a strong friendship that could be a sufficient basis for a relationship — even though Klaroline fans will actually burn the world to the ground if writers go there.

The second and less-likely option is that Dries is referring to Enzo, with whom Caroline had an extremely brief flirtation. (If you can even call it that.) It's less likely, because the series didn't necessarily establish the fact that Caroline actually had feelings for Enzo. But what makes this theory possible is that it makes sense with what Dries said about Mystic Falls' resident blonde causing a rift between her and one of her friends by making a move. Enzo tried to kill Stefan (Stefan ended up killing him but whatever) and he tried to kill Elena. I can't imagine either of them being happy that Caroline wants to strike up a romance with Damon's former Augustine cellmate.

Even though I, personally, don't support the writers giving Caroline a useless romance that's not going to amount to anything because she should really move over to The Originals. (Klaroline forever, people.) I am pretty impressed that they're going to let Caroline become confident enough in herself to pursue someone she's interested in. Rather than just having her complain about never being someone's first choice. Especially after they more or less destroyed her by making her act like a catty, high school bitch to Elena and Stefan at her dad's cabin.

If either of these theories are correct — one thing is certain, one or both of these currently dead characters (Stefan and Enzo) will be coming back to life during the Season 5 finale or at some point during Season 6. So before all of us Klaroline 'shippers grab our torches and pitchforks, let's hope that Plec and Dries are leading Caroline in the direction of Enzo. Because, never say never on this show. Right, guys?
