Can you think of anyone better to cut the ceremonial ribbon at Anna Wintour's Costume Center opening than Michelle Obama? According to Fashionista, FLOTUS will lead the celebratory events for the Costume Institute's recent renovation and renaming in honor of the infamous fashion EIC on May 5.
Wintour has been a longtime supporter of the Obamas. In 2012, the NYT reported that the icon was the fourth-biggest fundraising bundler for the President, raising $5,448,371 since 2007. Wintour also invited the First Lady to grace the cover of her magazine not once, but twice, in 2009 and 2013. So, we're guessing Michelle Obama was more than happy to repay the favor and endorse her girl.
The First Lady will give the opening remarks at the ceremony, but it is not likely that she will attend the Met Gala later that evening. According to Page Six, Michelle Obama's attendance "would require huge extra security and screening at the party, which could inconvenience others." Although it would be quite entertaining to see those big, designer gowns have to go through metal detectors.
I think I speak for everyone when I say I cannot wait to see who and what FLOTUS will decide to wear for the big celebration. Will Anna Wintour send some suggestions over? Is that how these things work? I suppose we shall see!
