Amanda Bynes Placed Under 5150 Hold, But She's Not Alone
To say that Amanda Bynes has had a rough summer is an understatement. The former teen star's erratic behavior has had her family, friends, and fans worried about the actress and her mental well-being. The actress was put on a 5150 hold — the code for an involuntary psychiatric hold — after she reportedly started a small fire outside of a random woman's home in Thousand Oaks, Calif. We hope the actress uses her time to heal and get to the root of her issues, like these other stars did who went through a similar experience. Here's a list of celebrities who received 5150 holds and how they used (or didn't use) the hospitalization to get back on track.
Britney Spears
Went under a 5150 hold: January 2008Now: Spears turned her life around after she was hospitalized for her erratic behavior. The singer was quickly placed under the guardianship of her father, and soon, her mental health issues were a thing of the past. In fact, Spears transformed herself into the ultimate comeback kid. In addition to releasing new music, Spears also went on to judge the TV show The X Factor. Later this year Spears will open a residency show in Vegas.
Mischa Barton
Went under a 5150 hold: July 2009Now: The actress insists that the 5150 was due to her wisdom teeth surgery altering her mood. Either way, the former O.C. actress has stayed out of the spotlight and out of harm's way. She currently has several films in pre-production.
Nick Stahl
Went under a 5150 hold: June 2013 Now: The Terminator 3 actor has said he is "grateful" for the 5150 hold that he was put on earlier this summer. He recognized that he needed the help and claimed he was dedicated to restoring his health. Unfortunately, earlier this summer, the actor was arrested for drug possession. Here's hoping for a strong comeback.
David Hasselhoff
Went under a 5150 hold: November 2009 Now: Hasselhoff was put on a 5150 hold after his battle with alcoholism took a turn for the worse. After the incident, the Hoff turned his harsh reality into a reality show on A&E titled The Hasselhoffs. Though he was hospitalized once again in 2010 following a three-day drinking binge, Hasselhoff appears to be getting his act together. He's made a cameo in the fun horror flick Piranha: 3DD and has upcoming roles in TV movies to look forward to.
