Maybe She's Born With It...
Maybe it's Maybelline! Everybody's favorite source of inexpensive mascara and lipstick has some exciting news: supermodel Jourdan Dunn is the new face of Maybelline New York.
Dunn will add some much-needed diversity to the world of ad campaigns, which is always refreshing. She follows in the footsteps of Freja Beha Erichsen, Charlotte Free, and Christy Turlington. Although those are some big shoes to fill, I have no doubt that Dunn is up for the challenge. An experienced runway model, Dunn has also been featured in campaigns for Burberry beauty and (most recently) a video ad for YSL's Touche Eclat makeup line alongside Cara Delevigne.
Her first campaign for Maybelline's Go Extreme mascara will launch in April. In a statement about the campaign, Dunn expressed excitement and gratitude to Maybelline for giving her the opportunity:
It is an honor to be a spokesperson for such an iconic brand. I am proud to say that I am a Maybelline girl and hopefully I can make people feel the same way I did when I saw the advertisements growing up. The brand imagery is always beautiful and positive. To now be a part of that is a dream come true!
Jerome Bruhat, global brand president of Maybelline New York told Vogue UK, "Jourdan's look, style and positive energy are perfect for the Maybelline New York brand. She truly reflects Maybelline's vision of global beauty."
She also has a cooking show called Well Done with Jourdan Dunn which, while having nothing to do with fashion, is probably the most cleverly-named cooking program ever. Fresh-faced Dunn seems like a great choice for Maybelline's beauty campaigns because she adds a little bit of diversity and personality to the all too often white-washed landscape of advertising.
