Victoria's Secret Runway Goes Across the Pond
The city of London is about to get its wings. Why, you ask? Well, the Angels are coming to town — the Victoria's Secret Angels, that is. Next winter, Victoria's Secret's runway show will be held in London instead of New York.
Angels Adriana Lima and Candice Swanepoel helped make the announcement at a press conference held in the New Bond Street store, alongside chief marketing officer Ed Razek. According to The Cut, Lima revealed the location switch-up with the following statement:
We are very excited to be here today because we have this great announcement to make. The Victoria’s Secret fashion show is the biggest fashion event in the world, and we’re very proud and honored to announce that we’re heading to London this year.
The brand has had designs on London since 1998, but they didn't have enough global popularity at that point to take their runway show overseas. Razek addressed this at the conference, saying, "Candidly, in 1998 when we came to London, no one knew who we were." As hard as that is to believe, things have changed in the years since. VS now has approximately six stores in Great Britain and seeks to open more. Hopefully the runway show will help skyrocket the brand's popularity in the U.K.
Although this is sad news for NYC, London could certainly use the racy glitz of a VS show, complete with lace, glitter, and feathered wings. The December 2 show will be held at an undisclosed location in Earls Court. Most of the details aren't public yet, but the designs are already in production. Razek also announced that has signed on. "I told Cara a week ago that we were coming to do this, and I told her to save the date. She was excited about it."
And so are we! Maybe this will be our chance to see Kate Middleton embrace some sexy lingerie-as-daywear looks. Now that is something we'd love to see.
