"Let It Go" Gets a Jewish Makeover with "Chozen"

by Lucia Peters

I love a good a cappella group, and I love parodies, so naturally, I am of the opinion that Six13’s Passover-themed version of “Let It Go” from Frozen is quite possibly the greatest thing I have ever seen. Or heard. Or both, at the same time. The best part? Six13 named it “Chozen.” It's official: These guys win at everything.

A six-man vocal band based out of New York, Six13 is (according to their website) “driven by a mission to connect Jews around the globe with their heritage through music, anchored by a strong Jewish identity, and fueled by thumping beatbox, intricate arrangements, and soulful harmonies.” They cover everything from hip-hop dance tracks to rock anthems, and they often do holiday tributes at strategic times of the year (see: Thanksgivukkah).

I just spent probably way too long watching everything they’ve currently got up on their YouTube page, and I’ve come to the conclusion that “Chozen” is their crowning achievement. Both telling the story of Passover and explaining the traditions involved in celebrating the holiday, it’s all kinds of brilliant — aaaaaaaaaaaaand now I’m going to have “Let It Go” stuck in my head for the rest of the day.

But don’t take my word for it; have a listen for yourself, and be sure to check out Six13’s other amazing jams on YouTube and iTunes.
