Rita Ora Takes a Page from the Book of Mimi

Rob Kardashian made headlines a few days ago with his cryptic, “You don’t know how much it hurts” tweet, and sadly, the 27-year-old reality show star is headed for more heartbreak (and probably more vague tweeting). Many speculated that Kardashian’s tweet (which has since been deleted) was in reference to his ex-girlfriend Rita Ora, who has recently been FLAUNTING her love with DJ Calvin Harris in interviews, even claiming that she is truly in love now for the first time in her life. Yikes, that hurts. But during an Australian radio interview yesterday to promote her new single, “I Will Never Let You Down,” Ora took a page from Mariah Carey’s Big Book of Shade and really let Kardashian have it.

When the radio hosts pressed Ora about her past relationship with Kardashian, she responded coolly, “I’ve got no idea what or who you’re talking about."

Ouch. It almost would’ve been less painful if she had said something like, “Never date Rob Kardashian: he’ll wreck your credit, he’ll scam on your friends, and he smells worse than the pachyderm house at the zoo.” But denying that their relationship ever happened? Denying that she even knows who he is?? That’s ridiculous. That’s cold! That’s so Mimi.

Carey has made a career out of dissing fellow celebrities by claiming to have no idea who they are. The first time it happened (that we know of) was years ago during a German television interview. When asked her thoughts about fellow pop diva Jennifer Lopez, a fleeting glimpse of recognition flashed across Carey’s face before she smiled brightly, shook her head, and said, “I don’t know her.” Legendary. Thankfully, the now iconic moment has been preserved in .gif form for generations of shady pop fans to enjoy for years to come.

Carey’s next target? Former American Idol judge Nicki Minaj. It’s no secret that Carey and Minaj despise each other — but can we all agree that Carey knows who Minaj is? They sat three feet away from each other for months while taping American Idol last year. THEY FILMED A MUSIC VIDEO TOGETHER FOR A REMIX OF CAREY’S SONG “UP OUT MY FACE” IN 2010. CAREY KNOWS WHO MINAJ IS. And yet, when she was asked about the rapper in a radio interview earlier this year, Carey responded, “Who?” Brutal.

Carey’s latest victim is none other than Kardashian’s sister, Kim. During his most recent appearance on Howard Stern’s show, Carey’s husband, entertainer Nick Cannon, told Stern, “My wife, she doesn’t even know who Kim Kardashian is.” What? Kim Kardashian is probably one of the most recognizable people in the WORLD right now, Carey knows— wait — let’s not do this again.

Ora isn’t the only celebrity to borrow Carey’s trademark slam, just the most recent. In 2009, Lady Gaga had to be rushed to the ER after being hit with a BRUTAL, unprovoked attack of shade, in which Christina Aguilera said of the pop star, “I’m not quite sure who this person is...” (To be fair, Gaga was relatively new on the scene at the time, but Aggie’s a shady lady by trade, so I cut her very little slack.) Of course, the two went on to work together on a remix of Gaga’s song “Do What U Want,” so presumably Aguilera KNOWS who Gaga is now, but when it comes to the world of shady celebrities, you never can be quite certain.
