You're Going to Want Tickets to JC's New Show
In today's news of blissfully nostalgic casting, we bring you the arena tour of Jesus Christ Supestar starring JC Chasez, Michelle Williams and Brandon Boyd. That's right — these three folks from pop music's theoretical hall of fame are uniting to pack arenas (this is not a musical, you guys — this is a mother effin' ROCK SHOW that just happens by Andrew Lloyd Webber, the man behind Cats). But musical theater nerds and those who know the lyrics to Chasez's "Blowin' Me Up With Her Love" (and I am both of those) can rejoice at this news. I'M THERE. ARE YOU?
For those of you unfamiliar with the musical, it made its way onto Broadway in 1971, and it completely re-shaped the way folks looked at musicals. Without this rock opera, you wouldn't have shows like Rent today, which would mean that I would have never have had the opportunity to spend my early teen years quoting hookers with AIDS. Anyway.
The musical, by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Weber, is the story of your man JC (Jesus Christ, not Chasez) from the perspective of Judas Iscariot — who will be played in this arena tour by the very tattooed Incubus frontman (and, ahem, visual artist ) Boyd. Jesus will be played by newcomer Ben Forster, Chasez will play Pontius Pilate, and Jesus's hooker and ladylove, Mary Magdalene, will be played by Williams of Destiny's Child (#poormichelle no longer, eh?).
The 50-city rock show will launch on June 9 in New Orleans. Tickets go on sale next week. Will you be there?!!?
Oh! And to get you excited, Williams and Boyd gave a little preview on Good Morning America. Check it out:
