Selena Gomez Might Be Back In The Studio

by Alexis Rhiannon

I have nothing but respect for a celebrity who knows when it's time to take a step back from the spotlight and get his or her head right. One of your favorite young artists is working through exactly that arc right now, and it leaves me with just one question: when will Selena Gomez's new album be out? No release date or even title has been mentioned yet, but I'm predicting we'll see new music from the young star within six months at the most. Songwriter Justin Tranter posted a photo of Gomez inside what appears to be a recording studio, adjusting her eyeliner. As if that wasn't enough of a sign, he also captioned the image "Music and love," which reassures me that she wasn't just in the studio to hang out.

The 24-year old singer has been famous for pretty much her entire life. Thus, I completely understood when Gomez announced in August that she was taking a break from her career to focus on her health. However, that doesn't mean I haven't been counting the days until she felt comfortable enough to start working on new music again. Now, she appears to be back at work on her third studio album, a much-anticipated follow-up to Revival , which was released on Oct. 9, 2015.

That was over a year ago now, so fans have gotten a little antsy for new music, especially after Gomez announced she was working on new music while on tour. She even debuted a new song, "Feel Me", in May 2016. That made it seem like a new album was imminent. But then, of course, she wrapped up her album and took her break, spending some time in a rehab facility. It seemed like the new project was shelved.

But Gomez is beginning to make public appearances again, like at the American Music Awards in November. With this studio shot as well, I suspect that the unnamed third album is now being pulled off the shelf and back into the production line. I would start looking for it in the first half of 2017. There were two years and three months between Gomez's first two albums, Stars Dance, which was released in July 2013, and Revival, sure. But I have a feeling the former Disney star will want to capitalize on the popularity of Revival with her follow-up and make things happen a little faster this time around. After all, I'm still singing songs like "Can't Keep My Hands To Myself" and "Good For You", so there's some momentum there that would really serve Gomez's third album.

Regardless of when this rumored new album is released, the most important thing is that Gomez is taking care of herself. I know that will make her upcoming album all the better and more connected, no matter when it comes out.
