9 Key Pieces To Add To Your 2017 Wardrobe

by Phoebe Avison

Although you may soon be giving your wardrobe a spring clean and storing your festive clothes away after New Year's Eve, it's always fun to look ahead and start planning your closet for next year. There's a whole host of key pieces for 2017 to add to your wardrobe, that'll have you on trend and one step ahead of the fashion pack all year long.

Of course, you likely have your own personal style by now, so I'm not saying you blindly follow along with the newest trends and ignore your unique taste in fashion, but rather, take a peek at next year's key pieces and edit out the items you're not in love with. As Coco Chanel once said, "Fashion changes, but style endures." Don't forsake your own fabulous style just to be in with the fashion crowd — wearing something you're uncomfortable in or a piece that's the opposite of who you are, just because of the name in the label, is not a good way to live. You'll spend your time constantly chasing trends and spending a ton of money on things that aren't representative of you as a person. This cycle won't make you happy.

Instead, take a glimpse into the key pieces for 2017 according to a stylist and choose your favorites to add to your wardrobe in the New Year.

Another great addition to your workwear wardrobe is a statement sleeve blouse. Call describes the top statement sleeves as bell sleeves, lantern sleeves, or ruffle cuffs. Any of these options will make your office wear far more indicative of your personality.

3. Kick Flare Pants

“I am especially loving the leather version from Celine,” says Call. Feel free to pick the pair of flared pants that best fits into your closet.

For next spring, Call explains retro florals will be seen across a variety of garments, “in the form of blouses, skirts, and dresses,” plus she explains they were, “shown by Gucci, Prada, Tory Burch, and Michael Kors.” Pick your favourite piece but make sure it’s got a floral pattern with a vintage vibe.

5. A Glimpse Of Lace

Call explains that delicate lace pieces (as seen at Valentino) and lace insets details (seen at Chanel) are set to be big at the beginning of next year.

6. White With A Touch Of Black

“Whether it is a white look with a black shoe à la Sonia Rykiel, a mix of textures and stripes curated by Lanvin, or color blocking at Sally LaPointe, the white/black statement was impactful for spring '17 and is one that can be approached with foundational pieces that may already exist in your wardrobe,” explains Call.

7. Statement Boots

When the weather’s not so great, slip into a pair of statement boots, but ensure they include, “unexpected textures and colors, as seen at Louis Vuitton and IRO,” says Call.

8. Statement Bags

Call recommends to bag yourself a statement bag in an unexpected shape or a miniature size, inspired by Loewe and Hermes respectively.
