This week's episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. took an artistic turn, with scenes shown twice, once from the POV of characters in the living dimension, and from the POV of those between dimensions. Still, most surprising was that Mack became Ghost Rider on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. — if only for a little while. His shotgun ax wasn't enough, I suppose.
In the explosion at the end of the previous episode, half of the team (Robbie, Coulson, and Fitz) were trapped between dimensions. They could barely communicate with the others. Even the times that seemed like they were coming through could have been coincidences. Then, when the Ghost Rider flew into Mack, by the power of anger, he literally and physically switched sides. At least he is no longer possessed by the revenge/ghost/demon/whatever the Rider is. In order to save Mack, Robbie struck a deal with the Ghost Rider. He would take on the burden again as long as he got to find and kill Eli as well. That freed him from the Upside Between, while the others enlisted Aida's help to return to the land of the living. She opens a portal that Coulson and Fitz are able to step right through.
Robbie also enlisted Mack's help tracking down Eli. That'll be two Ghost Riders for the price of one. He's going to need all the help he can get. Eli's new matter manipulating power is pretty frightening. Plus, Coulson and May might have been flirting, and there's a new Inhuman waiting to hatch? Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is back, and everything being set up is surely leading to something exciting.
