The holiday season is the best time of year dozens of reasons (family! egg nog! presents!), and my personal favorite: The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. IMHO, there's really nothing better than kicking back with a glass of red wine and some candy cane bark and watching the world's hottest models (who probably haven't been indulging in any red wine or candy cane bark for the last few months) strut their stuff in diamond-encrusted bras and angel wings. But one person who won't be taking part in the lingerie fueled festivities this year? Karlie Kloss. But why isn't Karlie Kloss walking in the 2016 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show?
Kloss has been a fixture on the VS runway since 2011, and has been one of the faces of the brand for the last five years. In fact, her friendship with Taylor Swift actually began when the two met backstage at the 2013 show, and the rest was picture-perfect Instagram history. There has been ongoing speculation about whether or not Kloss would be walking the 2016 runway, but she took to her Instagram account on Sunday (around the same time all of the angels were boarding their private plane to Paris... must be nice) to confirm that she would not be attending.
Kloss posted a photo of herself and the rest of the angels backstage at the 2013 show (obviously, Taylor was in it looking extra modely herself) with a sweet caption showing her support: “Thinking of the Angels and my entire @victoriassecret family as they make their way to Paris today. Unfortunately this year I have a work obligation that is keeping me from Paris. I'm sad to miss it but am wishing everyone all the best from afar! There is truly no show quite like the VS Fashion Show, and there is no feeling quite like walking on that magnificent runway. To all my girls walking, good luck and enjoy every minute of it!!! I can't wait to see you all shine bright over in Paris ❤️ all my love xx kk”
Considering how much Karlie has going on — what with her Girls Who Code initiative, her cookie company, and her various other modeling commitments — it's no surprise that she can't take the time out of her schedule to make it to Paris for the show. Hopefully the fact that she's missing this year's event doesn't mean she's retired her angel wings forever, and for the meantime we can all keep our fingers crossed for next year.
To see Kendall, Gigi, and Bella on the runway (yeah, I'm fine with that lineup, even without Karlie), tune into CBS at 10 p.m. ET on Monday, Dec. 5.
