If you want to add some magic to your makeup bag this month, then I Heart Makeup's new Unicorns Heart Rainbow Highlighter is for you. While we've been seeing the colorful makeup trend pop up everywhere — from Wet N Wild making a glowy version to Love Luxe Beauty producing a mermaid themed one — this particular product stands out from the competition thanks to its quirkiness and whimsy.
The illuminator looks like something straight out of our second grade daydreams. Coming in a heart-shaped white box, the nine dollar product is "a glimmering, pastel illuminator featuring stripes of lavender, crystal blue, mint, canary yellow, and baby pink pigment," Popsugar reported. The case has "Unicorn Hearts" written across it in a colorful foil worked into cursive, and a dancing unicorn decorating it in the corner. The words "a rainbow highlighter made by real unicorns" is written right under it, increasing its fancy by a factor of 10.
And while the packaging itself is adorable, the actual highlighter adds a beautiful shimmer across your cheekbones. "Swipe your brush across the hues to apply the perfect rainbow arc to skin, or swirl your brush in the pan to blend all five shades, creating a lilac tint," Popsugar shared. The fun, subtle hue will give your makeup routine a pop of color that varies from the usual white and champagne tinted highlighters.
With the product barely breaking a tenner, it's a low investent in the fun highlighter trend. Add to that the fact that it's a cruelty-free brand, and you have found yourself your newest stocking stuffer idea (whether that be for yourself or a friend!)
If you already own a colorful highlighter and aren't sure if this one is worth the investment, there are a couple of things that make it different from competing brands. First off, it doesn't include an orange stripe, which lets it keep cooler undertones. Also, it sweeps on more pastel than other versions. "Unlike the OG rainbow highlighter by Bitter Lace Beauty and its new drugstore dupe from Wet n Wild, I Heart Makeup's version, upon swiping onto skin, is more pastel and iridescent than its predecessors," Allure explains.
You can either build the color on your cheeks to make the highlighter less sheer and more pronounced, or you can use the individual shades in the pallette to play with different tints on different days. All in all, this is a versatile product that will definitely add a touch of dreaminess into your makeup bag!
