If we have to have a Trump Presidency — and we do, I checked — what's the one thing that could make that the slightest bit more tolerable? If you answered Full Frontal with Samantha Bee getting renewed for Season 2, then congratulations, you're our lucky winner. With 30 episodes of its life-giving first season behind us, TBS announced Wednesday that the critically-acclaimed show would be returning for all of 2017, and the channel's Senior Vice President of Original Programming, Thom Hinkle, gave any fans who were ever worried a gentle ribbing.
"Of course we're picking up the show," he said in his statement. "In less than a year, Sam has become one of the most talked-about personalities in all of television." In other words, "What are you, crazy? We were gonna let a gem like this slip through our hands? Right before Donald Trump takes office? Get your head on straight." The ratings for the series have yet to blow anyone away, but they are steadily climbing, and the show did net a 2016 Emmy nomination, so the announcement of a second season is hardly a surprise. Plus, earlier this year, TBS renewed Full Frontal through the end of 2016, so it was only a matter of time before they made it official with Season 2.
One thing that will change up a little, however, is the time slot: when Full Frontal returns on Jan. 11, it will be on Wednesdays at 10:30 p.m. instead of its original Mondays. According to Deadline, Wednesday night air dates work better from a "production and content perspective," so if anything, audiences can look forward to even better coverage in the New Year.
I'm not saying this makes the election process, or the election itself worth it. Nothing can do that. But, boy oh boy is it a relief to know that we won't be going through this alone. Samantha Bee has our backs through at least 2017, and hopefully a lot longer than that.
