Long Live Pharrell Williams x Adidas!
Hip-hop star Pharrell Williams is sometimes criticized for his musical choices and often lauded for his vampiric good looks. He is also becoming quite the master of the designer collaboration these days. With projects for the likes of Commes des Garçons and Uniqlo on the horizon, his lifestyle brand is booming. And it shows no sign of stopping now that Williams has partnered with Adidas.
According to Fashionista, Adidas announced a "long-term partnership" with the singer on Tuesday. The collaboration, which will make use of Williams' fabric company Bionic Yarn, is set to launch this summer. Pharrell sounds truly excited about the project, telling Glamour:
Working with an iconic brand like adidas is such an incredible opportunity. From the classic track suit, to growing up in Virginia wearing Stan Smiths, adidas has been a staple in my life. Their pieces are timeless. This is an exciting partnership for both me and for Bionic Yarn.
Pharrell Williams for Adidas is primed to be fashion gold. After all, Williams knows a thing or two about working with apparel and footwear brands from his time heading up Reebok's Ice Cream trainer line (now defunct) and past collaborations with A Bathing Ape, Timberland, and Palladium. Plus, the hip-hop star has some serious personal style. Have you seen those hats?!
Dirk Schoenberger, Global Creative Director of Adidas told Glamour:
I am truly thrilled to work with Pharrell. He is a pop-culture icon that never fails to inspire, not just through his musical talent and craft, but through his many other interests. He is the perfect fit for the multi-faceted company that is adidas.
I'm not much of a sneaker and track suit girl myself, and my knowledge of Pharrell comes not from listening to his music but longing to precisely mimic his skin care routine. However, even I think the long-term collab is an exciting development.
