Kim Kardashian Returns To Social Media

by Caitlyn Callegari

If you were trying to keep up with the Kardashians but found it difficult to do so with one very important family member off the radar, fret not. Kim Kardashian has come back to social media — or at least to Facebook. The reality star posted a picture of herself relaxing in a chair, looking at her phone, and wrote, "Downtime #LumeeCollab." And, though the picture was her first foray back into the world of social media, it's already looking like she's doing things differently this time around. Update: Shortly after this post was published, Kardashian's new posts were deleted from her Facebook page.

Earlier: How so? Well, first of all, the picture is not what you'd typically expect for Kardashian. It's a candid, or at least it's trying to be, and she isn't even looking towards the camera. It fits in with the approach many speculated she would take: A less upfront and subtler type of exposure. A way to interact and get herself in the public eye but without having to reveal as much as she previously would. But despite her adherence to the speculation that she would be more low-key on social media and her own sister's comments that she'd be stepping back a bit, there's something far more interesting about her Facebook picture: According to People, the picture is old.

The publication notes that despite holding one phone in her hand, her 2011 Blackberry Bold, "which she mourned the loss of in August," is pictured on her lap. So, unless Kardashian summoned some type of time traveling magic to get her phone back or searched the depths of Amazon to find one in its exact likeness, this picture can't be recent. But that might play into this new down low social media vibe she's got going on.

Khloé Kardashian told Ellen Degeneres in October about the entire family's "adjustments" due to the robbery:

"Well, I think it’s just a wake up call to make a lot of life adjustments. But this is a really serious matter for Kim, I think, that’s really personal as to when... that emotional terror you could move on from that. I think for us it’s all a wake up call for all of us, but definitely just to make sure our sister is OK ... Like I said, we’re a family we’ll do this together. I think it is important to make those adjustments, and to pull back a little bit, I think, is always smart."

By Kardashian posting an old picture, it proves that she's already going about social media in a new way. Not because she's never posted an old picture before, but because if this particular "old" picture is any indication, she's being purposefully elusive. It makes sense to divert attention, rather than alert people to her real location or whereabouts after being subjected to criminals who took advantage of her social media openness. And who could blame her?

The picture isn't the only social media post she made on Facebook, though. She also linked out to two posts from her app: an article on Halloween costumes, as well as a video of herself and Kourtney Kardashian on Halloween as children. What does that mean in terms of her social media presence in addition to the picture? I think it's a pretty clear indicator that the things she posts will probably be few and far between. And they may stay more business oriented rather than personal for the time being. A difference in social media style, for sure.
