Like all of us, I have my own life, and personal relationships, and day-to-day concerns, so I never realized how invested I was in Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth's relationship until they started rekindling it. It's confusing for me, because I didn't feel a whole lot of emotion when the couple broke off their engagement in 2013, but something about seeing these two young people find their way back to each other after a three-year break has me feeling all warm and fuzzy and optimistic. But cautiously optimistic, a feeling I seem to share with Cyrus and Hemsworth themselves, as they've been pretty tight-lipped about their reunion. Which is why I'm so excited to see Miley Cyrus talking about her engagement ring with Ellen DeGeneres; it's just another sign of the pair being more open about their relationship, reassuring me that they're getting to a more and more solid place.
Cyrus has been wearing her engagement ring again, reportedly since January of this year, which has had everyone buzzing, but she's hadn't acknowledged it herself, just wearing the distinctive piece of jewelry in public and on social media, and letting fans draw their own conclusions. At least, until now. Cyrus went on The Ellen DeGeneres Show for an episode airing Thursday, and not only did she not correct DeGeneres when she referred to Cyrus' bling as "your engagement ring", but she actually spoke about the piece itself:
"This is really weird because this is like real jewelry and most of my jewelry is made out of gummy bears and cotton candy and they don’t look that good together because they kind of mix up, so sometimes I replace it with an actual unicorn or a Looney Tune. And he’s kind of like, 'What’s going on?' I am like, 'This isn’t really my aesthetic but I’ll wear it because you love me.'"
What a development, huh? So not only does it seem like Cyrus and Hemsworth might actually be engaged again, but she's throwing around the L-word, too. This is what I love to see. And it's just the latest in a chain of more-revealing moves from the stars. In June 2016, Cyrus posted a photo of herself in a jersey with "Hemsworth" written on the back to Instagram, and a month later, Cyrus got a new tattoo of Vegemite, an Australian spread that Hemsworth has said publicly is one of his favorites.
And Cyrus isn't the only one who's opening up about the relationship. In a June 2016 interview with GQ Australia, Hemsworth spoke about the couple's 2013 breakup, saying that it "needed to happen" to lead them to where they are now, and sharing how he knew it was real with Cyrus when he first met her on the set of The Last Song in 2010:
"I guess when I feel something, then I just feel it and I go for it. I make my decisions about what’s going to make me happy, what I think is right and what I want to do — and I don’t worry too much outside of that."
They're words that could definitely apply to his and Cyrus' situation now, which Hemsworth wouldn't acknowledge outright, but got very very close to doing. He said, "People will figure it out, they already have. They’re not dumb."
No we're not, and I specifically am picking up every hint and clue that you put down, so keep them coming! I'm delighted to see this couple making it work as more mature, adult versions of their younger selves, and I hope they get more and more comfortable being open as they get further into their revived relationship.
