Beginning on Tuesday, One Direction fans can get a sneak peek at Zayn Malik's upcoming memoir, Zayn, exclusively on Wattpad. The excerpt includes snippets of how Zayn Malik really feels about fanfiction alongside high-quality images of 1D's ex-member. Zayn hits store shelves next month, but Wattpad users get more than a week to peek inside the book before it comes out.
One Direction are among the myriad music groups from around the globe who have become fan fiction focal points. Since January 2015, Wattpad users have spent almost 17 million minutes reading the 190,000 works of Zayn fan fiction available on the writing platform.
But how does Zayn Malik really feel about fanfiction in which he is the star? The singer writes:
[W]hen I was still in One Direction, fans would write stories based on me and the other lads and publish them online. I'm not gonna lie, it's pretty unnerving reading things about yourself as a character from somebody else's imagination — but it's cool to see that so many fans engaged with the band on their own terms like that.
Zayn's Wattpad account will be rolling out more updates to the memoir sneak peek as the countdown to Zayn goes on. Fans can win a follow from Zayn on Twitter and Wattpad by commenting on the second part of the excerpt before midnight on Nov. 2.
