Feel Stylish With 'Yves Saint Laurent' Clip
We're a little far behind on this in the states, but Yves Saint Laurent , the biopic following the story of the legendary designer of the same name, comes out this summer. It comes out in theaters here June 25, but in the meantime we've got a clip. The film is a "look at the life of French designer Yves Saint Laurent from the beginning of his career in 1958 when he met his lover and business partner, Pierre Bergé." For reference, that includes depression, commitment, addiction, late nights at Studio 54, and some truly astounding input into the fashion canon.
According to Vulture, the film was made with the input of Bergé and the Fondation Pierre Bergé-Yves Saint Laurent, the clothes provided by them and presided over strictly throughout the making. It follows then that the film will feature plenty of Laurent's designs, though the story largely follows his personal troubles. Bergé has publicly expressed his approval of the film.
(Fun fact: the film also features an actor playing the young Karl Lagerfeld.
Whether the film will live up to the 2010 documentary L'Amour Fou — which told the story of Laurent's life and work through the narration of Bergé, a look at a life of genius, addiction, and love — is yet to be seen. Niney seems to have mastered the mannerism and general feel of Laurent, though, so all that's left is the spirit and the story.
