'Star Wars: Rogue One' Is Coming To YA Literature

by K.W. Colyard

On Friday at New York Comic Con (NYCC), the Star Wars Presents: A Writers Roundtable revealed that a Star Wars: Rogue One YA book series is coming soon. The series will begin with a story that centers on Rogue One hero Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones), but will also include novels about Chirrut Îmwe (Donnie Yen) and Baze Malbus (Wen Jiang).

Although it is the first for a YA audience, Jyn Erso's story will not be the first Rogue One tie-in book. That honor belongs to the upcoming Catalyst: A Rogue One Novel by James Luceno. The book serves as a prequel to the movie and will be available Nov. 15.

Star Wars Presents: A Writers Roundtable featured many heavyweight writers from the franchise's history, including Luceno, Timothy Zahn, Chuck Wendig, E.K. Johnston, and Charles Soule. Smuggler's Run author Greg Rucka will write the Star Wars: Rogue One YA novel about Chirrut Îmwe, but details about the other authors involved in the series are few.

The Star Wars: Rogue One YA book series isn't the only big news to come out of the NYCC panel. In celebration of the franchise's 40th anniversary and the corresponding re-release of A New Hope, "Lucasfilm will be partnering with Del Rey, Hachette, and Marvel to release new books and comics," outerplace.com reports. Expect to see an official announcement from Marvel soon.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story comes to a theater near you on Dec. 16.
