Remember when you used to go get ice cream to celebrate a win? Ice Cream Books and Morgenstern's Finest Ice Cream have partnered to create a special ice cream flavor to celebrate Brit Bennett's The Mothers: the debut novel from the 5 Under 35 author.
Ice Cream Books has become an Internet sensation. The premise is simple: put a scoop of ice cream on a book, add a brightly colored background, and post the melty-but-high-quality images online.
Morgenstern's Finest Ice Cream is no stranger to Internet publicity, either. The Lower East Side parlor made headlines this summer, when pictures of its blacker-than-black Coconut Ash ice cream went viral. Morgenstern's also released a line of lip balm-inspired ice creams to accompany the release of Glossier's new Balm Dotcom flavors.
To celebrate Bennett's novel, Morgenstern's will offer an exclusive sorbet, Sour Plum Jam, during the week of Oct. 17. Founder Nicholas Morgenstern says this line from The Mothers inspired his creation:
All good secrets have a taste before you tell them, and if we'd taken a moment to swish this one around our mouths, we might have noticed the sourness of an unripe secret, plucked too soon, stolen and passed around before its season.
Ice Cream Books is expected to release an image of the flavor paired with the book cover next week.
Sour Plum Jam sorbet will be available at Morgenstern's Finest Ice Cream from Oct. 17 through Oct. 21.
