Jon Snow was not kidding in Season 6, winter has officially arrived in Westeros and the Game of Thrones cast is experiencing the results first hand. In an Instagram post from the Northern Ireland Game of Thrones set, Emilia Clarke revealed the "Bear Grylls" filming conditions the cast is facing in Season 7. Remember, filming was pushed back this year to give Westeros an authentic winter look and even Daenerys is not immune from the gale force winds.
A heavily bundled up Clarke posted a video that is nearly inaudible due to the crazy wind wipping across the Northern Ireland locale. Clarke captioned her video, "And then I fell over. Or rather a brisk 50mph N.Irish wind caught me unawares..." No one can say the mother of dragons does not have an excellent sense of humor though. Clarke had fun with hashtags when she noted #bitoftailwinddoesnicelyonadragonridethough. This is exactly why Daenerys will always be the one true queen, you guys. She even sees the positives in winds so strong they can literally knock her over.
While the winter weather is probably not much fun to film in, it is going to give Season 7 a distinctive look and feel. This will also be the first time Daenerys has been seen in a location that wasn't bathed in sun. Could Clarke's video hint Daenerys will experience Westeros' winter first hand in Season 7?
Season 6 ended with Daenerys setting sail for Westeros with a massive army and three dragons. It seemed safe to assume she would finally make it back to her homeland in Season 7, at least it did until news of the filming of a spectacular naval battle started making the rounds. Since the battle is rumored to include Theon, Yara, and Euron Greyjoy, it sounds very much like Euron will catch up with Daenerys before she makes land in Westeros.
Since the sea is Euron's domain he is in a much better position to win the battle than Daenerys and her army of Dothraki who have never crossed the ocean before. There has been speculation Euron may join forces with Cersei, and if he does, he could deliver Daenerys and her dragons to the new Queen of Westeros in exchange for being crowned king. Remember, in the books there is a dragon horn that could come in play in Season 7, and mean bad news for Daenerys' dragons.
For now, just sit back and appreciate Clarke's real life ferocity. Even when she's not playing one of Westeros' coolest characters, Clarke still has all the chill, even on the coldest, windiest set days. Daenerys would approve.
