First Kendall Jenner debuted her lip tattoo, and now Cara Delevingne's neck tattoo joined the ranks of celebrity ink. While the model-turned-actress isn't a noob when it comes to the needle (she sports lion and bee tattoos, amongst many others, her newest addition will make you want to look twice.
Artist Keith "Bang Bang" McCurdy uploaded a video of his work to his Instagram account, depicting a pair of life-like eyes on the back of what appears to be Delevingne's neck. In a phone call to Bang Bang NYC, Bustle confirmed the tattoo is in fact Delevingne's.
Elaborate in design, the eyes have a portrait-like quality, complete with framing eyelashes and iris detailing. They're propped on top of an older piece, and the placement (literally on the back of her head) gives them a somewhat eerie quality. As the camera moves around, they almost appear to be following it — an effect that's pretty cool, if not a bit spooky.
The inspiration behind the piece isn't known, but it definitely joins an interesting mix of pre-existing work. The design right underneath the fresh ink is inspired by Yantra tattooing, which takes up the base of her neck. Then the one she received just months before this eyeball addition was bestowed upon her by Suicide Squad co-star Margot Robbie, who tatted an emoji smiley on the bottom of her toe.
While Delevingne is obviously obsessed with tattoos, she's also got a sense of humor about them. For example, the model has a tattoo of bacon she tells McCurdy in an interview included in his book Bang Bang: My Life In Ink. Entertainment Weekly published the excerpt, sharing, "I feel like something about bacon reflects my personality. It’s salty and it’s bad for you and it’s delicious. I just love it so f—ing much, that’s why," she clarified.
In that same interview, she elaborated that the four white dots on her ribs represent each member of her family, and her "Made in England" foot stamp obviously anchors her down to her roots.
Given the intention of her other tattoos, it's interesting to speculate what this new addition might mean to her. Being a celebrity, it probably gives her comfort to know she has eyes in the back of her head.
