Two ShondaLand Celebs Make A Hilarious Voting PSA
Voting when you live in a swing state. Going to the park and enjoying a swing. Two totally different activities connected by one essential word: but which is more fun? This is a high-stakes question that could only be answered by two prominent ShondaLand celebrities in a voting registration PSA that we'll be showing our grandchildren: Matt McGorry and Tony Goldwyn. Thank heavens that this, and exactly this, is what the world has given us. This swing states voting PSA is just the first in a series of videos on the subject, some of which will be targeted solely at audiences in swing states like Florida, Ohio, and North Carolina. The people starring in the nonpartisan videos will be cast members from ShondaLand shows like Grey's Anatomy, Scandal, How to Get Away With Murder , and The Catch, so they'll be worth tuning into as much on entertainment grounds as on civic duty grounds.
I found the casting of this first video particularly amazing. After all, these aren't just any ShondaLand show cast members. Tony Goldwyn plays the goddamn President of the United States, so who better to encourage high voter turnout? Saying no to the Commander in Chief would be downright churlish.
Similarly, Matt McGorry stars on How To Get Away With Murder as the entitled Asher Millstone. Millstone's the elite 1 percent that this election is all about, whether you think it's about boosting the contribution they can make to the industry and you believe in trickle-down economics (Trump) or you believe their financial activities should be closely monitored and society should be made more equal (Clinton). As such, his casting is just as perfect as Goldwyn's, though for entirely different reasons.
Besides which, my number one hobby is collecting dad jokes, and the fact that this entire video revolves around the comic premise that the pair have set up their own "swing state" means I'm done for the day. That's it, that's the high point. We can all go home now. Bye, internet. I can't find fault with comedy so wonderfully bad.
So keep your eyes peeled: there'll be further videos released from the likes of Bellamy Young (Mellie Grant in Scandal), Darby Stanchfield (Abby Whelan in Scandal), Jason George (Dr Ben Warren on Grey's Anatomy), Jeff Perry (Cyrus Beene from Scandal), Katie Lowes (Quinn Perkins on Scandal), Aja Naomi King (Michaela Pratt on How To Get Away With Murder), Alfred Enoch (Wes Gibbins on How To Get Away With Murder), Rose Rollins (Valerie Anderson on The Catch), Karla Souza (Laurel Castillo on How To Get Away With Murder), and Jack Falahee (Connor Walsh on How To Get Away With Murder) in the run up to the Election Day on November 8. No matter what the results of the election are, the pop culture impact will last forever.
