Listen up, Little Monsters — Mama Monster might just have been given the starring role of a lifetime. According to a report from Us Weekly, Lady Gaga will perform at the 2017 Super Bowl Halftime show. Bustle has reached out to Gaga's reps for comment, but hasn't heard back at this time. If the report is indeed true, just imagine how much Gaga could rock the Super Bowl 51 Halftime Show at the NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas. The epicness would have no bounds, and I really hope this news is indeed true, so that everyone can brace themselves for all the many surprises Mama Monster would bring to the gridiron. Update: A spokesperson for the NFL told EW that the report was "not true," and that "nothing has changed" regarding a past comment that no one performer had been chosen for the halftime show.
Earlier: If this report is correct, this halftime headlining opportunity would be a return trip to the Super Bowl for Lady Gaga, who sang the National Anthem at the 2016 championship game in Santa Clara, California. If Gaga is truly set to wow us all at the Super Bowl, she'll have plenty of new tunes to do it with — she just released her new single "Perfect Illusion," which is No. 1 on the Billboard + Twitter Top Tracks chart, and her long-awaited new album Joanne is set to take fall by storm when it's released on Oct. 21.
Whether or not Gaga does grace the football field with her presence, Mama Monster has been having a pretty exciting year, career-wise. Her song "Til It Happens to You" from the film The Hunting Ground won an Emmy and a Grammy in early 2016. The track was also nominated for an Academy Award. Outside of music, Gaga was honored for her acting with a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Miniseries or Movie for her starring role in American Horror Story: Hotel. She's currently appearing in the sixth season of American Horror Story and she is confirmed to star in a remake of the classic film A Star Is Born , directed by Bradley Cooper, which will begin filming in 2017.
No matter what, it sounds like Mama Monster is going to have a very busy 2017 with or without the Super Bowl — but I still hope it's true, because you know Lady Gaga would totally change the game when it comes to halftime shows.
