About 75 percent of this season of Real Housewives Of New York has been centered on Luann, her fiancé Tom D’Agostino, and the rest of the women’s reaction to their private business. Frankly, it’s been a lot, and it’s been tedious AF. Sonja had a hookup with Tom, Ramona went out with Tom for a little, and now Luann is engaged to Tom and it’s put a rift in her relationship with both ladies. But on the third (yes, there were three) iteration of the reunion, Sonja apologized to Luann for her behavior on Real Housewives Of New York — is this the beginning of a new era?
For every moment that Luann discounted Sonja this season on Real Housewives Of New York, Sonja battled back, albeit mostly behind the scenes in the producer interview segments. She insulted Tom, claiming he was a player; she insulted Luann, claiming she was just desperate to get married; and she even insulted Luann’s engagement ring, which she compared to her own — an allegedly “flawless” four-karat diamond. There was a lot of mud thrown back and forth this season on Real Housewives, but at the reunion, Sonja apologized to Luann for all of her remarks, saying that she was just mad at Tom for not recognizing her as a “friend” of his and she took it all out on Luann. Luann accepted her apology, and these two seemed on better terms.
How often do viewers see a cast member of any franchise of Real Housewives own up to the words she said and then apologize accordingly? It doesn’t happen much, I can tell you. Sonja isn’t drinking anymore — she recognized she wasn’t her best self when under the influence, and she’s really been working on herself. Perhaps this apology tour is part of it. Whatever the reason, I really like the new Sonja — she’s not hiding anymore, and it’s really admirable.
