This Summer Trend Is Staying For Colder Weather

by Shea Simmons

From the Kardashian sisters to your favorite YouTube gurus, this summer, the world seemed to be completely obsessed with one beauty trend in particular: highlighting. That glowy, gorgeous skin look was perfect for the warmer months, but can you wear highlighter in the fall? While autumn is a time when matte skin is much easier to maintain (thanks to a lack of humidity), a dewy, gold glow is still possible to rock.

2016 has basically been the year of the highlight. YouTubers like NikkieTutorials and Jeffree Star were participating in the full face of highlighter challenge, while Jaclyn Hill was busy releasing amazing highlighters with Becca. It's definitely the product of the moment. In fact, it's so hot that Kylie Jenner herself abandoned her signature all matte look to rock Hill's Champagne Pop highlighter. If Kylie's into it, that mean's it's in.

Even though glowing skin is most often associated with warmer weather, fall and winter is totally a time to wear highlighter because let's be honest, when dry skin sets in during the colder months, there's nothing better than giving yourself a glowing look when you've lost your tan. While skincare is always the best way to address dry skin, certain highlights can restore a glow despite the cold weather.

So what highlighters are best for fall?

1. Primer

BECCA Backlight Priming Filter, $38, Sephora

This BECCA primer not only gets the skin ready for makeup but also provides a glow beneath your foundation for a more subtle highlight.

2. Multipurpose

NARS The Multiple in Copacabana, $39, NARS

The Multiple is a cult classic products. Its blendable cream formula can be used to highlight cheekbones, the inner corner of the eye, or basically anywhere you want a subtle shimmer.

3. Liquid

Cover FX Custom Cover Drops, $42, Sephora

The Cover FX Custom Cover Drops are great for adding an overall glow or for giving that banging highlighted cheekbone a la Jaclyn Hill.

As for powders, personally, I avoid them in the fall. With potentially dried out skin, it's just asking for alligator face. If you're looking for a new highlighter this season, make sure to grab one of these cream and liquid formulas to help maintain your glow, despite the chilly temps.
