Could This Be The Song of the Summer?
Hallelujah, goddess Sia has blessed us with a new song. And how is it, you wonder? AWESOME. We owe her so much. “Chandelier,” Sia’s first solo track since 2010, is a mid-tempo party anthem. Oh, but not like an LMFAO “Shots” type of party anthem*. It’s a sad party anthem. A “I hate thinking about tomorrow/the future/reality, so I’m going to lose myself in tonight” type of sad party anthem. I was really into emo during my formative years, and now I’m all about pop music, so you bet I love a sad party anthem. (*Note: I also love an LMFAO-style party anthem. Just give me all of the party anthems. Okay thanks bye.)
Sia, who has written many a song for other pop stars, said she brewed up “Chandelier” unintentionally. Ugh, she's even a pop genius when she isn't trying! Some people just have all of the talent, huh?
She revealed on the On Air with Ryan Seacrest radio show that she and her pal, producer Jesse Shatkin, were “jamming in the studio … and this gem popped out.”
“He produced it up and then I plunked the lyrics on top. Next, I usually think, Oh this would work for Rihanna, or this would be a good one for [Beyoncé] or Katy [Perry]," she explained. "But this time, I was like, Uh oh I think I just wrote a full blown pop song for myself by accident!” And that's how "Chandelier" was born!
It's been a few years since Sia’s released a solo album, but woman has been doing WORK. She was featured on hits like David Guetta’s “Titanium” and Flo Rida’s “Wild Ones.” She was an advisor on The Voice. She co-wrote approximately 10,000 songs, including Britney Spears’s “Perfume,” Christina Aguilera’s “Blank Page,” Beyoncé’s “Pretty Hurts,” and Rihanna’s “Diamonds.” Like I said, we owe her so much.
Here's the song. Warning: You won't be able to stop listening to it. It's kind of like The Red Shoes , but a song. She might've won 2014 already?
