Filming for Season 7 of Game of Thrones is officially underway, and you know what that means: spoilers are coming. In fact, Watchers on the Wall recently revealed that a number of Game of Thrones cast members were spotted in Belfast potentially filming a major battle on the high seas. Among the cast members spotted were Pilou Asbæk, Alfie Allen, and Gemma Whelan — Euron, Yara, and Theon Greyjoy. If the Greyjoys are staging a family reunion, do not expect it to go well for anyone, least of all Daenerys.
Remember, at the end of Season 6, Daenerys finally gathered enough ships to begin her journey back to Westeros to take the Iron Throne from Cersei. Daenerys officially allied herself with Yara, the Sand Snakes, and what's left of the Tyrells. Add in her army of the Unsullied, Dothraki, and her three massive dragons, and it seemed like Daenerys was in for smoothing sailing all the way to Westeros. If the rumors about the Belfast scene are true, though, Euron has the best shipbuilders ever because he is reportedly continuing with his plans to sail with his army toward Meeren — and he may even be allied with Cersei now. Yeah, that's right, actor Lena Headey has been spotted in Belfast too.
Whether Euron and Cersei have struck a deal or not, Euron should not be underestimated. A man who casually admits to murdering his eldest brother is traditionally not one for caution. If he catches up with Daenerys' army, she may have to make some difficult strategic choices in order to continue her journey home.
Daenerys' army is vast, but aside from Yara and her crew of Iron Islanders, they are not experienced in naval battles. The Dothraki are terrified of water, and the people of Dorne are not exactly known for their sea-faring ways. If Daenerys meets Euron on the water, Euron will have the upper hand with or without dragons. This could put Daenerys in a position where she either has to make Euron a better offer than whatever Cersei has in mind, or she may have to cut and run, leaving the Greyjoys to battle it out among themselves.
If she chooses the latter option, this could very well be the end of Yara and Theon. I could see the siblings deciding the fight is a personal one and leading the battle in Daenerys' name while Daenerys and her crew continue on without them. It is harder to imagine Daenerys allying herself with Euron, especially given the deal she made with Yara. Daenerys has never been one to turn her back on her people, and she surely sees Yara, Theon, and their followers as part of her army now. With Westeros so close, she may have to make the impossible choice to allow Yara to sacrifice her people to keep Euron away from Daenerys' ship long enough for the Khaleesi to get away.
Of course, Daenerys has three dragons which should be the ultimate trump card, but if a certain book plot point comes up, Daenerys could find herself at Euron's mercy. In the books, Euron is in possession of a dragon horn which is said to be able to control dragons. If this weapon finds its way into his hands on the show, he will be holding all of the power. Even more alarming? If Euron throws his lot in with Cersei because she gives him the horn, Cersei could potentially control Daenerys' dragons. There is a terrifying thought for you.
If the dragon horn comes into play, Daenerys may have no choice but to agree to Euron's terms or watch her people burn. However this battle on the Narrow Sea turns out, Daenerys will not come out unscathed. She is on a collision course with Euron Greyjoy on an unfamiliar battlefield. Whether she has to bargain with a man as loathsome as Euron or allow Yara to lead the battle, Daenerys' road to Westeros just got a whole lot more complicated.
