Will She Be In The Next 'Star Wars' Film?
How to confirm that you're succeeding in Hollywood? Get a Star Wars rumor buzzing with your name attached to it. Case-in-point: Hollywood's current 'It'-Girl (and the current 'It'-Girl of our world, because this woman is pure awesomeness) Lupita Nyong'o just might star in Star Wars: Episode VII , if these rumors prove to be remotely true.
Apparently, the Oscar-winning 12 Years A Slave actress met with J.J. Abrams to discuss potentially playing one of Obi Wan-Kenobi's offspring, which certainly sounds a character poised to be the female lead in the newest film. No word on whether or not this sequel will be any good (After all, George Lucas has a habit of ruining franchises with unwanted sequels *cough*Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull*cough*), but still, this is big.
Winning an Academy Award is a surefire way to ensure that you're "having a moment" in Hollywood, but it seems like getting a Star Wars rumor is a certified label of "star." Adam Driver, riding on his very well-deserved Girls success, was recently was confirmed to appear as a villain a la Darth Vader in the film, except this supervilliain character makes strange noises when frustrated, is a sexual force to be reckoned with, and calls his enemies (and lovers) "kid." (That's a joke! But seriously — Luke. I am your father...kid.)
It would be pretty awesome to see Nyong'o and Driver face off with light sabers, or anything — two very capable, dynamic powerhouses dueling simply with their words would be enough to make us drop everything to see the movie. Unfortunately, we'll have to wait to know for sure, as the new installment of the super-popular franchise is slated to hit theaters on the far, far away date of December 18, 2015. Sorry.
