If ever there was a contemporary queen of romantic classicism, it'd have to be Adele. The London-born singer/songwriter is no stranger to cat eyeliner, red lips, and Old Hollywood-esque gowns, and Adele at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards would've undoubtedly been no different. Whenever she's graced an awards show red carpet, the 28-year-old "Hello" singer has kept things simple yet elegant: Black, sequin dresses, babydoll necklines, and minimal makeup have all been in her arsenal. For 2016, however, she skipped the ceremony altogether, so any chance at a slight departure from her typical aesthetic was unfortunately forgone.
Had Adele made it to the Aug. 28 ceremony, she would've been celebrating an impressive eight nominations — including Video Of The Year, Best Pop Video, Best Art Direction, and Best Female Video for "Hello." You don't pile up that many Moon Man nominations without being a killer musician, of course. But considering the VMAs red carpet is also known for its aesthetic experimentation and out-there looks, it would've been rad to see the singer making a style statement, too.
Although Adele's whereabouts on Aug. 28 are relatively unknown, my guess is that the singer is still recovering from what appeared to be a pretty nasty cold. On Aug. 17, Adele had to cancel a Phoenix, Arizona show due to illness. In her tweet to dissapointed followers, she was very clearly under the weather.
Although Adele, IMO, deserved all the nominations she received this year and more, here's hoping she had a peaceful night and is on route to a speedy recovery.
