That quirky, bow-tied Science Guy has teamed up with science journalist and Dangerous Waters author Gregory Mone to write a middle grade fiction series for ABRAMS imprint Amulet Books. Bill Nye's middle grade book, Jack and the Geniuses , follows a trio of foster siblings who solve mysteries with science.
Jack and the Geniuses: At the Bottom of the World is the first installment of Nye and Mone's Jack and the Geniuses trilogy. Polyglot, robot-building Ava and astronomer-mathematician Matt are Jack's foster siblings, the "Geniuses" of the series' title. The three children land jobs in Dr. Hank Witherspoon's lab after spying on him and his work. When they accompany Dr. Witherspoon to an Antarctic convention, the kids discover that another scientist and her research have vanished, and they must use all of their smarts and skills to solve the mystery of her disappearance.
In a statement to Entertainment Weekly, Nye gushed:
The fire of excitement that I feel about science today was kindled when I was a kid ... Like any kid of any age, Jack and the Geniuses love science and seek adventure. Here’s hoping that a few kids read these books and have scientific adventures for the rest of their lives.
