13 Perfect PVC Looks From The Celebs

by Hatti Rex

When most people think "vinyl," they likely think of fancy record collections. But this manmade material slips its way into fashion often, turning a few heads along the way. Seeing celebrities wearing PVC usually makes the aesthetic seem effortlessly cool, even though the historically scandalous material is likely to make you stick to leather sofas and sweat profusely when rocking it.

Stepping out in head-to-toe rubber might have once cast the wearer as a "heathen," but thanks to the influence of BDSM on fashion, much of the mainstream has come to consider taboos as information for the next cool and eye-catching clothing trends. If anything, PVC's debauched history makes me more determined to exchange my entire wardrobe for something a little more synthetic.

According to eBay's guide on wearing and caring for latex, getting in and out of your PVC isn't as tricky as you might expect. Coating the inside with baby powder or specialized lubricant means you can wiggle yourself inside of it with no problems. The site also advises using your whole hand to pull and shift your body into an outfit rather than just using your fingers, as this may end up damaging the material.

So let's take a moment to shout-out all the famous faces who manage to wiggle themselves into fabulousness.

1. Rita Ora

Singer Rita Ora and her latex two-piece co-ord were on fire with this look, and not just because of the design. The fact that she braved this outfit for an album signing is inspirational. Next you'll be seeing me nipping to the store in head-to-toe rubber.

2. Kim Kardashian

Can I just say that Kim Kardashian was pregnant in this photo? Talk about redefining maternity-wear. Ever the fan of a latex number, this deep plunge V-neck PVC dress worn to a Hype Energy Drinks event is a particular favorite of mine. Not only did it show off her gorgeous curves, but any rogue energy drink spillages would've glided right off.

3. Beyoncé

Although Beyoncé was giving us total streaker vibes with this latex outfit hidden beneath a floor-length camel overcoat, she totally owned it. Here's something to giggle at: Imagine the hilarity of this flawless queen trying to twist herself into the costume. True, she probably has a team to help her get dressed. But still.

4. Pam Hogg

Legendary designer Pam Hogg is no stranger to fashion's more daring and subversive side. She rocked up to the 2016 BRIT Awards in head-to-toe plastic with a scantily-clad model in tow, and I'm honestly not shocked in the slightest. Rather, I'm still delighted.

Personally, I'm always a little too chilly to consider wearing the outfit on the left. But I'm down to try on a pair of latex trousers, that's for sure.

5. Rihanna

When it comes to fearless fashion trends, super stylish RiRi is usually one of the first celebs I turn to for inspo. Somehow, she managed to turn the substance with a sordid past into a super cute look through this baby pink-embellished raincoat. Never has bad weather looked so adorable.

6. Kylie Minogue

I'm really feeling the white contrast detailing of the bows on this stunning dress as worn by the astounding Kylie Minogue back in 2014. Would an extra one rocked as a head-piece be genius or overkill?

7. Ariana Grande

Potentially my favorite Ariana Grande look of all time, this racy monochromatic number wouldn't be out of place in a superhero film starring a black and white-wearing badass babe. If anyone ever makes fun of you for leaving the house with mismatched shoes on while still half asleep, show them this.

8. Miley Cyrus

Do it? Do... what? Wear an entire outfit molded from bubble gum pink PVC? Yeah, OK Miley, don't mind if I do.

I'm not really sure what was going on with the pig nose headband, though.

9. Nicki Minaj

Now, here's some headwear that commands immediate attention. Singer and ultra babe Nicki Minaj swung by her perfume launch in this hot pink conductor hat that looked like it could've been bought straight from a sex shop. Combined with a matching lipstick and jacket, it was definitely a winning look.

10. Cara Delevingne

Potentially my favorite Victoria's Secret Show ensemble of all time, I'll never forget when Cara Delevingne minced down the runway in this super sweet, baby pink, striped all-in-one number. The matching fingerless gloves are something I definitely need in my life.

11. Kelly Osbourne

With Kelly Osbourne's alternative roots, it's no wonder that the fashion-obsessed rock chick has dabbled with latex a few times over the years. Although this look dates back to 2010, the all-black outfit contrasted against her bleach blonde locks making it a firm favorite in my eyes.

12. Rebel Wilson

The all-black outfit with matte latex leggings was a solid choice, but I'm pretty sure actor Rebel Wilson didn't need massive life-size wings to look angelic. I'm feeling them too, though.

13. Katy Perry

Obviously cutesy pop princess Katy Perry has worn PVC a bajillion times. The material is so glossy and smooth that it can make the wearer look almost fictional. However, this delicious pastel ice cream pattern is inspiring me to take a trip to my freezer. BRB.

And there you have it. If you're considering hopping onto the PVC trend yourself, remember that a full suit with the eyeholes cut out of it may be too much for your more conservative relations to initially grasp. I say go for it anyway, though.
