11 Celebrities Proving Dr. Martens Are For Anyone
If there's a shoe that I believe everyone should have in their wardrobe — or be assigned at birth and replaced throughout life at their shoe size increases — it's Dr. Martens. The footwear is iconic, which is why we can observe so many celebrities wearing Dr. Martens alongside film characters and even babies. It's not just a shoe. It's a lifestyle.
Personally, what I love about these kicks is how versatile they are. You can wear a Dr. Marten boot, shoe, or even a Dr. Marten flip flop with literally anything. You can make a summer dress a bit more grungy with your beat-up DMs; wear them to a formal gathering to show that you're really punk rock; or just keep things classic with blue jeans and a white T-shirt.
Thankfully, there's plenty of evidence of celebrities rocking all three of these looks and more, which only proves my point about the adaptability of a Dr. Marten shoe. They can be worn by all humans in any number of ways. They're definitely not exclusive to celebrities or style bloggers, either. And thankfully, the brand has been around for so long that you can even get them pretty cheap second-hand. So to celebrate the longevity and versatility of the DM, let's take a look at 11 celebrities who clearly know the powers of these kicks.
1. Miley Cyrus
Miley Cyrus' custom glittery-heart DMs really pulled this outfit together, stopping it from seeming too dressed-up for a star who likes to keep things a little bit different.
2. Tegan And Sara
The iconic lesbian pair is no stranger to the wonders of matching Dr. Martens.
3. Gwen Stefani
Gwen Stefani is a star who often opts for sensible footwear when onstage, as proven by this pair of Dr. Martens.
4. Jessie J
This British-born singer made DMs all her own by opting for a hot pink pair.
5. Hayley Williams
Of course this pop punk princess would love a pair of DMs.
6. Cymphonique Miller
Nickelodeon star Cymphonique Miller made her Docs entirely her own by accessorizing them with glittery slides. It was a nice feminine touch for a usually masculine boot.
7. Jodie Connor
Jodie Connor is a British R&B artist who took Dr. Martens to a whole new level by introducing the world to heeled DMs.
8. Jared Leto
The first guy on the list, Jared Leto can be seen rocking my personal favorite kind of DM: white ones.
9. Perez Hilton
Perez Hilton chose pink Dr. Martens to go with his kilt, which is a look that almost makes me like him.
10. Robert Pattinson
Here is R. Patt keeping up his IDGAF attitude towards Hollywood all the way down to his toes with a super casual pair of Dr. Martens.
11. Alice St. Clair
After expertly playing Kate Middleton on U.S. television, Alice St. Clair proved that she wasn't royalty with this super casual look featuring a low DM shoe. I'm not sure how great her feet felt sans socks, though.
Hopefully these celebrity Dr. Marten looks have inspired you in your own DM-wearing adventures.
Just remember: If you ever ask yourself, "Will my Docs go with this?" the answer is always yes.
