Shailene Woodley Nonchalantly Spills More Beans
Listen up: Divergent's coming your way reaaaal soon, guys. This means, of course, that Divergent star Shailene Woodley is everywhere. Talking about why she doesn't have a cell phone, and casually mentioning that she swings any damn way her heart pleases, oh yeah, Shailene Woodley has hooked up with a costar after filming that one time.
"I haven't had time to think about a relationship! I literally have not had a boyfriend in almost five years. I've never even hooked up with anybody I've worked on a movie with," she told Teen Vogue. "Well, that might have happened on something . . ."
Woodley is, of course, a young star in Hollywood, and so it follows that both of the latter things on that little list up there spread around like gossipy wildfire. "She'd hook up with girls omfg!" "She probs macked on an actor when it wasn't her job!!" etc.
But let us take a moment to appreciate something about Shailene Woodley: This is a young person in Hollywood who seems almost completely unphased by the giant messy machine in which she's operating. She doesn't have a stylist, she didn't sign on to a million projects following her critical breakout in The Descendants to best ride the wave, and she seems to choose projects based far more on her personal interest than what it could do for her image. In fact, she doesn't seem all that concerned with her image at all.
In a lot of ways she's a definite PR sister to Jennifer Lawrence: They're both seemingly completely themselves, took the parts in their giant franchises with hesitation but passion (Lawrence is also the one who convinced Woodley it'd be a good idea), open and honest in interviews in a way that's somewhat refreshing in a world so micromanaged by panicked PR people. Of course they have their differences: Namely that Lawrence endeared herself to the public in large part because she seemed so visibly psyched to be part of the Hollywood scene, reacting with outward glee at the sight of any other celebrity; Woodley, for her part, seems completely at ease among the chaos and yet simultaneously like she's not buying into it.
Here's the thing about that co-star hookup confession: It's the oldest story in the book when it comes to Hollywood. Or theater, for that matter: Take a peek behind the curtains of any high school or college or community theater set and you'll see similar images of romances or sexual relationships sparked by long hours spent together — or in the case of a lot of Hollywood romances, long hours spent on press tours afterwards. I can guarantee you the vast majority of actors in Hollywood have dallied in something similar. So we can posit all we want about the guy or girl Woodley may have hooked up with — and yes, you should definitely be side-eyeing any list that doesn't include a variety of genders, considering Woodley's most recent "confession" — but just remember: Sometimes it's safest just to assume everyone's in on some kind of behind the scenes action.
