Kris & Kanye, Partners in Publicity Stunt
Kris Jenner might be Kanye West's mother-in-law to be, but apparently she's also his art director. RadarOnline revealed on Tuesday that Jenner "confessed" to planning West's elaborate proposal to her daughter Kim Kardashian during a court hearing against Chad Hurley, the co-founder of YouTube who posted illegally obtained footage of West's proposal to Kim. Kris Jenner couldn't keep the secret any longer — credit where credit is due, am I right? — and she said during the lawsuit that "as part of this, I was directly involved in formulating and was familiar with the guest list."
The "event," which aired on an episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, involved a huge 50-piece orchestra playing Lana del Rey's "Young and Beautiful" at the AT&T stadium in San Francisco, where Kanye proposed to Kim with an enormous chip off the old meteor, the 15-karat diamond ring that's been weighing her down. I call conspiracy in the name of commerce—even though Jenner and West have bristled in the past, I think subtly and secretly the two have bonded over their first love, money, to fabricate the stunt. Even their feuds in the past reek of cahoots. I call cahoots. Cahoots.
Here's why.
Kris, Kanye and North
Remember when Kanye came on Kris Jenner's show (RIP) to reveal the first photo of beautiful baby North West? It seems like he was bullied into the deal by Jenner to reveal the photos on her show first and nowhere else. "I'M THE GRANDMA," I imagine her whispering to West in a dimly lit hallway. West said on the show that "I thought it would be really cool on her grandmother's season finale to bring a picture." The photos were so adorable it was almost enraging, but at the end of the day, both Kanye and Kris lined their pockets.
Bound 2 Performing Publicity Stunts
When Kanye debuted his moving screensaver video for "Bound 2" starring a very smooth, very topless Kim Kardashian on a sex motorcycle going nowhere, Kris Jenner was scandalized. Apparently, according to Heat magazine, "After a private screening of the music video, Kris went ballistic, telling her daughter this is worse than the 2007 leaked sex tape that Kim made with her ex-boyfriend Ray J, because that was meant to stay private while this was meant to go public." It might seem like Kris was concerned with Kim Kardashian's demureness and sanctity of public image, but doesn't it make more sense that Kris Jenner and Kanye wanted to create more buzz about his strange, eagle-filled video?
Everyone loves a feud, especially within America's strangest reality TV family which includes Yeezus, America's favorite self-proclaimed rap messiah. And now that Kimye has announced that their wedding is imminent (maybe they'll make it to the church steps), we can only dream of the insane blood-curdling fights that will arise between Kris Jenner and Kanye West. The pair would be smart to fabricate it, and they're no strangers to publicity stunts. Meanwhile Kim Kardashian will probably remain silent, struggling to carry her baby and balance her diamond all at once.
