HBO Go Failed Them, and You

by Samantha Schnurr

True Detective Season 1 may have taken its final bow last night, but for anyone watching through HBO Go, they probably didn't see it. The streaming website crashed minutes after the True Detective finale episode premiered. Administrators for the HBO Go website acknowledged the technical difficulties by posting to Twitter. However, their statement was not too comforting, especially considering HBO didn't publicly recognize the error until 10 minutes before the episode's end.

"Due to overwhelmingly popular demand for #TrueDetective, we've been made aware of an issue affecting some users. Please try again soon," the @HBOGO account posted at 9:50 pm.

As we've learned to do in every major—or minor—dilemma, those afflicted took to Twitter to express their outrage. In the midst of complaints and cries of fury, Twitter transformed yet again into a wonderland of priceless memes and gifs. The most popular one? A screenshot of a stalled loading circle sign, alluding to Rust's infamous quote, "Time is a flat circle."

If anything, this event taught us that sometimes, we're better off going the traditional route and just pulling up a seat to watch the traditional way—on the couch in front of a physical television. Besides, HBO doesn't have commercials anyway.

FYI: HBO Go is working now, in case you were wondering.
