Pretty Little Liars is the show that I just can’t quit — despite the ups, downs, Rosewood's incompetent police officers, Sara Harvey, and new emoji-using villain, it’s the one show I’ll always still watch. Many viewers still feel the same way, it seems, because Pretty Little Liars was nominated for 11 Teen Choice Awards this year. That’s certainly impressive, and even more impressive is the fact that during Sunday night's broadcast, the Freeform series took home six surfboards. At first, six out of 11 may not sound like the best ratio, but you have to remember: many of the stars were nominated against each other in the same category.
Pretty Little Liars was nominated for Choice TV Show: Drama, Choice TV Actor: Drama (Ian Harding, Keegan Allen, and Tyler Blackburn), Choice TV Actress Drama (Ashley Benson and Troian Bellisario), Choice TV Villain (Janel Parrish), Choice TV: Scene Stealer (Sasha Pieterse), Choice TV Chemistry (Ashley Benson and Tyler Blackburn), and Choice Summer TV Actress (Lucy Hale and Shay Mitchell). And I mean, duh — Pretty Little Liars is a pop culture juggernaut. Everyone from teens to thirty-somethings any beyond loves its doll drama. Even though the Teen Choice Awards are only for teens, you can't discount that popularity. You can watch the stars of PLL receive one of many surfboards in the video below.
Now, I would personally give all of the awards to the Pretty Little Liars crew (especially Choice TV Chemistry because #HalebForever), but I was satisfied with the results of how many awards Pretty Little Liars pulled in at the 2016 Teen Choice Awards... aka basically all of them! Its six wins included Choice TV Show: Drama, Choice TV Villain, Choice TV: Scene Stealer, and Choice TV: Chemistry because, as I said before #HalebForever. In the categories where PLL was up against itself, Harding nabbed Choice TV Actor: Drama and Hale took home the surfboard for Choice TV Actress: Drama. The only category the series lost was Choice Summer TV Actress, which went to Teen Wolf's Shelley Hennig. But considering the amount of surfboards the Liars and co. are taking home, I don't think they minded.
Basically the entire cast showed up to accept their surfboards, too, which was nice. I feel like the Teen Choice Awards aren't taken as seriously as other award shows, even though teen fans are just as important, and I was glad to see that the stars of PLL agree. They love their teen fans, and based on these six Teen Choice Award wins, I'd say the feeling is mutual.
