Anna Wintour Might Be Styling Hillary Clinton
Anna Wintour and Hillary Clinton — two incredibly powerful women with one common love: the suit. It only makes sense that Anna Wintour has been styling Hillary Clinton, according to the Business of Fashion. This may just be the most impressive stylist and style-e duo yet.
Though their suit of choice differs — Wintour in classic Chanel tweed, rocking a jacket, knee-length skirts, and sling backs, and Clinton, in her colorful pantsuit — one thing does remain the same: They wear them well. And as leading ladies in their own industries, I'm not surprised.
The Internet has long admired Clinton's choice of colorful pantsuits. In yellow, blue, green, orange, pink...you name it, Clinton's worn it. Her choice, aside from a stylish one, is a strategic one, the New York Times notes. Vanessa Friedman notes, "That to me was the biggest advance: not complaining about fashion, not denying it, not ignoring it, but milking it for what it was worth. For what it could do for you: support your message. Underscore it. Add to it."
And that, Clinton did. Creating a uniform for herself not only solidified her look, but her personality, as well. That kind of consistency was key. It became dependable, yet still fun. And like most other people in the head of their fields— say, Steve Jobs, Karl Lagerfeld, and Mark Zuckerberg — Clinton has nailed down her uniform.
And according to Business of Fashion, we have Wintour to (partly) thank for that. “Clinton has been consulting American Vogue editor-in-chief and Democratic party fundraiser Anna Wintour on her wardrobe choices for key moments of the campaign." For Clinton, Wintour reportedly contacts American designers to get certain pieces for Clinton to wear on "certain occasions."
Aside from Wintour, though, Clinton reportedly asked the help of Kristina Schake, the stylist and image expert that's helped FLOTUS Michelle Obama in the past. And we all know that FLOTUS' fashion choices were impeccable, pulling pieces from Thakoon, Narciso Rodriguez, and my own personal hero, Alaïa. It's safe to say that Clinton is in good hands.
Though Clinton's look is easy, simple, and predictable, it's also genius. It's professional and put together, without taking herself too seriously. Clinton, in her position as the Democratic presidential nominee, has been under a microscope, criticized for her policies, speaking abilities, mannerisms, and of course, her fashion choices. It is an incredibly difficult (and frustrating, may I add) space to occupy, yet she does so with grace.
Let's go through some of her best looks, shall we?
Here she is, rocking a beautiful blue hue, with POTUS.
Green, Hillary, is definitely your color.
This jacket is perfection, and more on the Wintour side.
Yes to these two looking good as ever.
I'm sorry, but this color is everything.
See? Pink is her color, too. They all are!
If you think it's just a pantsuit — you're wrong. It is so much more. And Clinton has chosen just the right team to help her out. I look forward to the many more looks we're going to see Clinton in, especially as the race continues all the way up to November.
