'Teen Wolf' Season 6 Needs Stiles, OK?

by Alexis Rhiannon

With the devastating announcement that the upcoming season will be the show's last, the only question I have is — will Dylan O'Brien return for Teen Wolf Season 6? Actually, I lied; that's not my only question. I have a bunch of them, but they're mostly unhelpful things like, "huh?" and "why?" and "what did I ever do to you?" And, as much as I'd love to spend my day shouting those questions into the void, in the interest of holding it together and making it to my weekend intact, let's focus on more answerable queries. You know, like whether or not we can expect to see O'Brien in Season 6. Just be a dear and keep my smelling salts nearby, would you?

Before we even knew that the sixth season would be its last, there was speculation over whether O'Brien would be able to return, due to the injuries he sustained on the set of Maze Runner: The Death Cure in April 2015. The 24-year-old actor was in a harness on top of a moving car when he was pulled free and struck by another vehicle. It, of course, delayed filming on Maze Runner, as production has been delayed potentially until December, but what about his other projects? I wasn't feeling super optimistic that we'd get the chance to say our goodbyes to O'Brien's character Stiles in Season 6, but this turns out to be one of those rare moments when my pessimism is misguided.

Not only has showrunner Jeff Davis confirmed that Stiles will be returning, he also promises that his role will be pivotal, telling Entertainment Weekly:

Stiles is a big part of the season because a lot of this season’s mystery revolves around him. We’re going to see just what Stiles’ friendship means to Scott, Lydia, and Malia. We’re going to see why exactly he’s Scott’s best friend, what it means that he’s Malia’s human anchor, and what his will-they-or-won’t-they relationship is with Lydia.

Cue a huge sigh of relief for all of us, because this is such great, unexpected news. Not only because I'm worried about Dylan O'Brien and want him to be healthy and feeling good and able to work again, but also because Stiles is such a crucial character in this saga that I can't imagine bidding farewell to it without him.

The final season will contain 20 episodes, and premiere this November on MTV, so be sure to tune in to throw your support between O'Brien and the entire Teen Wolf cast.
