Now, I don't want to get your hopes up unreasonably high over this only to dash them, so please don't tell your childhood self what I'm about to say until we get confirmation — but, just so you know, there might be a Kenan & Kel reunion in the works. Wait, no, what did I just say? Step away from your time machine, we have to hold off on spreading this news to our younger selves until it's beyond the rumor stage. I know I've already burned Baby Alexis too many times with all those Friends reunion false alarms that never actually came to anything, and I don't want the same to happen to you.
OK, sonow that we're all solidly feeling like our rational adult, selves, I can give you some of the details of this potential reunion, right? I'm trusting you, so don't let me down.
The good news is, it's coming from a reliable source — Kenan Thompson himself, who sat down with former costar Kel Mitchell and Entertainment Weekly to talk about the show now that it's been 20 years since it began airing. (I know, I can't handle how high that number is either.) There was of course some chitter chatter about how the Nickelodeon show got started, all the off-camera hijinks back in the day, and just general reminiscing. But then the interviewer cut to the chase and asked the question on everybody's minds: can we expect any more of that Kenan & Kel magic? Here was Thompson's response:
I miss and love those guys, it was awesome times. I wish we could just pick up and do Kenan & Kel: The Grown-Up Years, getting everyone back working together. I feel like it would be an awesome moment for everybody.
Am I crazy, or did he just name the revival show? I don't want to push or anything, but it seems like you have a title all picked out, so what's stopping you? And Thompson continued by saying, "I mean, we might as well; it couldn’t hurt. If people want it then they should have it." So you mean it's all up to us? Why didn't you say so before? I've just been over here biding my time sipping my orange soda, and all this time, you were just waiting for me to tell you I want a Kenan & Kel reunion?
Well, I want it! Let me know if me writing it down here is enough, or if I should also be getting in touch with my Congressman. Bottom line: this has to happen.
