No, Hiddleswift Isn't A Publicity Stunt

by Jamie Primeau

Drop everything, take a seat, and listen up. After weeks of speculation and conspiracy theories, Tom Hiddleston has spoken. He officially confirmed that Hiddleswift is not a publicity stunt. In fact, The Night Manager star said those exact words: Not. A. Publicity. Stunt. While celebrating his Emmy nomination on Thursday morning, Hiddleston talked to The Hollywood Reporter. Asked about his relationship with Taylor Swift, the actor laughed and said,

"Well, um. How best to put this? That notion is — look, the truth is that Taylor Swift and I are together, and we're very happy. Thanks for asking. That's the truth. It's not a publicity stunt."

So that settles that, huh? It appears that Hiddleston is now loud and proud about dating the "22" singer. You know, in case that "I <3 T.S." tank top he sported over 4th of July weekend didn't make things clear enough. On the same day as the aforementioned interview, he told MTV News, "We are together and we’re very happy." The quote is almost identical to the one above, minus the awkward "um" and polite "thanks for asking." Because seriously, I'm sure everyone has been asking. And although there's not too many juicy details in there, that confirmation is enough to dismiss any other theories besides them just being two crazy kids in love. (Aside from the fact they're not crazy, nor children. You know what I mean, though.)

When asked by The Hollywood Reporter who his Emmys date would be, the 35-year-old said, "I don't. I didn't even know I could." Hmmm, does this mean Swift is out of the running? He probably just hadn't pondered the possibility yet, so fans shouldn't freak out. One step at a time — relationship confirmation first and then the rest can happen later. Why get ahead of themselves?

Quite frankly, I am relieved by Hiddleston's statement. Although I'm still puzzled by some of Hiddleswift's actions, I would prefer they be together out of happiness, not a ploy for attention. And now that that's out of the way, he can focus on what's really important: basking in his first-ever Emmys nomination. That's a major moment for any actor and it shouldn't be overshadowed by rumors about his love life.
