The predictions have been made, the office pools have started, and now the analyzing of the snubs and the surprises begins. That's right, it's officially awards season again! The 2016 Primetime Emmy nominations were announced this Thursday morning by actors Anthony Anderson (black-ish) and Lauren Graham (Gilmore Girls). Who made the cut? Who went home empty-handed?
Last year, HBO's Game Of Thrones earned a whopping 24 nods, from Outstanding Drama Series all the way down to technical categories like Production Design and Casting, and ended up taking home 12 trophies — the most awards won by a show in a single year in Emmy history. That's a high, record-breaking bar for 2016 to live up to. One unfortunate byproduct of this current Golden Age of television is that there's so much content out there that, not only is it impossible to nominate it all, it's virtually impossible for the Emmy voters to even watch it all! (Yes, even in a time when the average American watches five hours of television every single day, there are still shows that will slip between the cracks.)
So try not to take it too hard if your personal favorites were snubbed — advice that's easier to give than it is to take, to be sure. Let's get this started, shall we?
