He may have starred in The Hunger Games movies, but Liam Hemsworth is cautious about what he eats. And because of that, Hemsworth was crowned one of PETA's Sexiest Vegans for 2016. What an honor, right? The site explains their decision: "There’s no denying that one of the more recent celebrities to choose vegan is also one of the sexiest men in all of Hollywood." Admittedly, I had no idea Hemsworth was even a vegan. But when I did some research, I found that his reasoning is rather inspiring. Nope, it's not just because his on-again, off-again girlfriend (and maybe-fiancé) Miley Cyrus is one too. Let's give him more credit than that.
In a 2015 interview with Men's Fitness, Hemsworth shared his reason for giving up animal products. It's a combo of looking after his own body, as well as morality toward other living creatures. He told the mag,
"My own health, and after all the information I gathered about the mistreatment of animals, I couldn’t continue to eat meat. The more I was aware of, the harder and harder it was to do."
Sure, he was already attractive before making that statement, but I must admit his compassion adds to his pre-existing sexiness. No wonder PETA chose him for this honor. In the aforementioned interview, he explained that despite blood tests and doctors telling him red meat was good for him, the more he ate it, the worse he felt. It's unclear whether he meant physically or emotionally, but based on those comments above, I'd guess it was a bit of both.
While some people may question how he maintains a balanced diet without getting protein from meat, he told Men's Fitness, "There are no negatives to eating like this. I feel nothing but positive, mentally and physically. I love it. I feel like it also has a kind of a domino effect on the rest of my life." What better reason to be a vegan than feeling great and caring about animals? It's really no secret that he's an animal lover. In January, Daily Mail reported that Hemsworth and Cyrus have six dogs in their home. The actor rarely posts on Instagram, but when he does, there's usually a dog posing alongside him.
Congrats to Hemsworth on his latest honor. His big bro Chris Hemsworth was People's Sexiest Man in 2014, but he was not declared the Sexiest Vegan. Something tells me these competitive and goofy brothers will have a bragging battle.
