The Oscars Had An 'Arrested Development' Reunion
When Liza Minnelli showed up on the Oscars pre-show Sunday night, no one looked more surprised than Liza Minnelli. The legendary performer, rocking a blue streak in her hair, seemed somewhat out of place on the red carpet, looking around and smiling a little too widely. Yet while Minnelli's demeanor may have been a bit strange for her, the singer, it was right in line with one of her best-known characters: Lucille Austero, the vertigo-suffering, Buster-loving neighbor on Arrested Development.
For fans of the recently revived show, the appearance of Lucille 2 induced some serious feelings of Bluth-family nostalgia. Thankfully, Minnelli wasn't the only member of the Arrested Development cast to appear at the Oscars; also present were Portia De Rossi and Charlize Theron, better known as Lindsay Bluth and Rita Leeds, respectively. Is there a banana stand on the red carpet we don't know about?
Unfortunately, the paths of the three Arrested alum didn't cross at the pre-show, at least as far as we could see. Perhaps when the red carpet ends and the stars file inside, the Bluths will get to have a mini-reunion; even better would be if they found a poster for Her and posed in front of it, Mae Whitman-style. Even with just the few of them together, any Arrested reunion would be amazing — especially considering how the real reunion, the show's recent fourth season, wasn't nearly as satisfying as we had hoped.
While seeing some of our favorite Arrested actors together again is certainly great, it'd be even better if a few more alums from the series were by their side. Yet since the Oscars chose to overlook Ron Howard's Rush and Julia Louis-Dreyfus' Enough Said, we'll have to make do with just seeing three of the show's cast members on the red carpet tonight — and keep an eye out for AnnYong hiding somewhere in the bleachers. We all know how sneaky that kid can be when his family's milling around.
