Celebratory SCOTUS Memes And GIFs To Share

by Maddy Foley

Finally, finally, finally, some good news. On June 27, the Supreme Court of the United States voted 5-3 to strike down Texas House Bill 2. The historic ruling is important, because it will save Texas' remaining abortion clinics from closing and sets a precedent for abortion regulation across the country. Of course, a celebration is in order, and because this is the internet we're talking about, there are HB2 SCOTUS memes and GIFs galore to share on social media. I know you were searching for the perfect reaction GIF for this situation, and now you have some to choose from. You're welcome.

If you haven't been following the HB2 case, here's the gist. In 2013, Texas passed a law (despite Wendy Davis' filibuster and protests from Texas women) which imposed new restrictions on abortion clinics. One required that any clinic performing abortions must meet the same standards required for an "ambulatory surgical center." Another demanded that any doctor performing an abortion have admitting privileges at a hospital within a 30-mile radius. The combination of these new restrictions effectively wiped out the majority of the state's free-standing abortion clinics — which was exactly the intent behind them.

Today, SCOTUS ruled that the law was unconstitutional. I'm so freaking amped up about abortion rights always, but especially today. Here is how amped up I am.
